Host: Ralph Walker  Please RSVP  515-230-0042.

The drive will start at 10:00 and bring your own lunch/drinks, etc. It will

start from the south day use area, or south camp ground for those that

want to come up the day before. There is a north camp ground

and day use area and a south campground and day use area. We're using

the south ones.

Visitors from the North
From Hwy 20 go south on P73,  for South Day Use continue on P73 and go west on D46.

Visitors from the South
Get on D46- the South Campground and South Day Use Area are located off of this road.

Drive will consist of a couple of miles on a black top and

2-3 miles of gravel to get to the south wagon trails. We'll drive on the

wagon trails, have lunch and head back to camp. There is also another trail

out of camp that makes a 4-5 mile loop back to camp. Sounds like folks can

pick which ever trail they want to drive. The short one would put you back

in camp for lunch.

Detailed directions will be sent out a week or so before the drive. Anyone with

questions could call Ralph - 515-230-0042.

Please RSVP and let me know if you will camping or coming in for Saturday or Sunday or both.

Bring a lunch for whichever days you are driving and we will have a potluck on Saturday evening in the campground area.

Matsell Bridge is a Linn county park located north and a bit east of Cedar Rapids.  Many years ago MIDA had an annual drive at this park.  It features a horse camp ground with hitching posts and horse water. There is no electric and there is no "people" water.  If you wish to camp space is limited with the types of rigs we pull with our vehicles and the camp sites are not the most level.  It would be good if you could get there early on Friday to get a good site.  As you cross the bridge watch for signs on the west (left) side and the driveway to the campground.  If you are not camping proceed on that road to the day use area. You will see it on your left. The day use area is large with ample space for those who come just to drive.  There are a few hitch posts, picnic tables  and a porta potty.  The park also have a nice cabin available for rent for $50 a night.

We will drive on both Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning from the day use area with another short drive after lunch (also at the day use area) for those who choose to go.  The park borders the Wapsipinicon River and there are some fun river bottom trails for those who care to ride later in the afternoon after the drive.  So come for the whole weekend or either of those days.

The park features 12.5 miles of marked trails all of which are flat enough and wide enough for our vehicles.  Some of those trails are prairie so do have either a vehicle with a top or good covering for shade as it may be warm.  A few of the trails have some areas that are sandy also.
